$GOTU is actually profitable, it shouldn't be dragged down with the $TAL ER, if anything it should actually have a higher share price than it! And I think in time it will.

Hold on to your TAL and EDU shares:

Shi expects a “massive amount of bankruptcies” among smaller after-school tutoring companies as a result of the new rules. The exit of 70% of such firms, which currently meet about 70% of market demand, would consolidate the industry in favor TAL and New Oriental, he wrote in the emailed commentary. New venture capital-backed competitors will also change their business scope and exit, he added, citing Yuanfudao and Zuoyebang as examples.

Online tutoring leader TAL, in particular, will report “very strong net profit growth” from now on, Shi wrote. There is “hard demand” for after-school tutoring, he said. “This policy has created the perfect competitive landscape for TAL and EDU to further grow.”

Monday was a great day in HK for education stocks, we are on are way to the below statement. Good luck to all Longs
"BEIJING — Beaten-down Chinese education stocks can recover by double-digits as the industry shifts to businesses like vocational training following this summer’s regulatory crackdown, Morgan Stanley analysts said."

$EDU and $TAL Couple reasons these are going higher...
1-Potential regulations impact K-9, leaving out college/secondary edu and adult.
2-Chinese and most Asians/Middle Easterners are big on edu, so I see this as an overreaction. Remember supply and demand. There is enormous demand.
3-With smaller companies closing, it makes life for bigger ones like these easier. Less competition like what COVID did to mom and pop restaurants and retailers in the US

My 2 cents. Best of luck trading.

The #1 Cardinal sin is not buying Chinese stocks. That's BS. Many people have made fortunes with Chinese stocks.

The #1 Cardinal sin is betting the entire farm.
Invest only what you can afford to lose, or be able to detach your emotions and bag hold for a while if you need to. Don't let ANYONE influence your decision making.

If you can't handle seeing your value decline by more then 50% you shouldn't be in the market. Sorry for anyone here who lost money on this massive downside. That's the way she goes sometimes.

I'm in at 5.50 average. Reduced my price target of fair value to 25.70 based on 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity model.

    Good luck everyone!

Just remember this fact. "Economic fundamentals have not changed and the market will stabilize at any moment," Good luck to all Longs
"In a front-page editorial Wednesday, the Securities Times said the recent slump "to some extent reflects misinterpretation of policies and a venting of emotion.""
"It added that "Economic fundamentals have not changed and the market will stabilize at any moment," according to Bloomberg and Reuters. Other securities dailies echoed those comments."

Should you buy Chinese stocks amid the government crackdown?

I don't think the Chinese crackdown is as serious as many think. Tiger moms are very creative. I remember when the Korean gov tried something similar years ago and they failed...

Bloomberg article "China Bans For-Profit School Tutoring in Sweeping Overhaul" is very misleading.

Actually Chinese government only requires 1-9 grade tutoring register as non profit (as 1-9 grade is compulsory education). Kintergarden and 10-12 grade (high school) tutoring can still be registered as for profit.

    That's a big difference.

Wait a minute: The government practically killed off all future competitors as well as the current small competitors by disallowing fundraising. While $TAL and $EDU suffered 50%+ loss in their normal businesses, they also now have the field practically to themselves without having to burn cash to fend off numerous new entrants armed by other big money capitalists. $TAL and $EDU can now make money more easily in the areas they're still allowed to profit (non-school subjects + everything high school and above, which are still very serious and important business), and they can benefit from their dominant positions when entering new educational fields that are not regulated. Given the drop of 94% for $TAL and 89% for $EDU from ATH, the punishment was overly severely for the amount of revenue lost, and not counting a better road to profitability with less competition and better inroads for future endeavors of these dominant companies.
